"I am my sister's bedtime stories that I read to her.
I am my dad's Lebron James. ...
I am my grandma's steak and mashed potatoes on her plate on the Fourth of July.
I am the gum stuck on somebody's shoes or sneakers on the sidewalk on my block.
I am the heat of the sun beaming down on me. ...
I am Awesome."
-Aaron, 6th grade, Freire Charter School

Over just five days, the middle school students in our Percussion Studio summer camp built bucket drums, learned percussion techniques, practiced rhythmic movement, wrote and recorded their own poems, and performed for their families. All while building confidence, learning to work as an ensemble and becoming ever more "Awesome."

We ended the camp with a special treat - a chance to meet The Bacon Brothers before they played WXPN's Free at Noon concert. Here, students are showing off their food-themed rhythm poems ("Taco, quesa(dilla), taco, sour cream, taco, quesa(dilla)") for Michael and Kevin Bacon.
